Ahleuchatistas
Add To My Artists

Ahleuchatistas are a duo from Asheville, North Carolina, with Shane Perlowin on guitar and Ryan Oslance on drums. In recent times, the music has shifted towards an evolved doom psychedelia, what the New York Times called "a sort of heatstroke minimalism", with stretched moments of sustained tension creating a hypnotic effect. There are strong currents of Chinese music, African music, western classical music, electronica, and ambient/noise in the new direction, with a punk rawness and intensity.

The earlier works of the band reflect the progressive rock roots of the original lineup of Shane Perlowin on guitar, Derek Poteat on bass, and Sean Dail on drums. On these recordings, older listeners might note a passing resemblance to Captain Beefheart's work in the late '60s and early '70s--especially Troutmask Replica.

Ahleuchatistas has released two album on John Zorn's Tzadik label, and two albums on Cuneiform Records. Both labels are small, somewhat obscure, but extremely prestigious. The first Ahleuchatistas album, On the Culture Industry, was released in 2003 by Angura Sound, a small, now defunct, label that was run by friends of the band. The album is currently o [Read more]

"There's noise and fire in their playing, but most of these tunes are also studded with signposts, demanding close attention and clear execution."
The New York Times

"It's the kind of musical tug-of-war that sounds as jagged as it is graceful..."
National Public Radio

"It's a world away from the all or nothing monochrome of lesser acts."
The Wire: Adventures in Modern Music

"Music does not get much closer to the edge than this..."
Alternative Press

Child Abuse
Add To My Artists

There are three bands named Child Abuse.

1) 1977 LA punk band that later mutated into The Simpletons( posh boy).

2) Hardcore band from New Jersey that released the single '...Bring It,' on Mutha Records in 1983.

3) CHILD ABUSE bring together playfully wild keyboards, throbbed bass stabs, stuttering piledriver percussion and demonic vocal fits. To make matters more terrifying, CHILD ABUSE embody the musical spirit of a drunken Thelonious Monk in a head-on car wreck with Gorguts. Brutal, catchy, complex dissonance bent grind. The band released the acclaimed Miracle of Birth/Child Abuse split cd with Lovepump United, a full length cd released by Lovepump United with art by Albert Oehlen. CHILD ABUSE also has releases on Folding Cassettes, Rock is Hell, Forge Records, and Zum Media.

In early 2011, singer/keyboardist and founding member, Luke Calzonetti left the band to concentrate on other pursuits. He has since been replaced by Eric Lau.
