The Courtesy Tier
Add To My Artists

The Courtesy Tier is always a surprise, sometimes even to themselves. Omer (guitar) and Layton (drums) have been playing together for the last seven years, but they weren't always a duo. As members came and went, they perpetually conceptualized themselves as a four and sometimes six piece band. Then, during their second winter in New York, the boys had run out of other band members. Regrouping in a closet size practice space under the Smith Street overpass, they finally had enough room to rehearse, and they liked the sound. By the following summer they were ready to record, but a New York budget requires some fanagaling. With three mic's in a seven by seven room and help from their friend Chris Gachot "Map and a Marker" was born.

The Courtesy Tier is a two man cadre. Whether invoking Wilco, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix, or The Black Keys they synthesize the soul of rock with melodic blues. While a forerunner of the DIY movement in Brooklyn, they aren't your usual Brooklyn sound. The album name exemplifies their process: go with what you've got and you'll find your way there.

Moon Furies
Add To My Artists

From the furthest reaches of our galaxy to Brooklyn/Chicago comes the captivating Electronic Pop-Rock group known as Moon Furies. They have taken the country by storm, performing with acts such as Peter Bjorn and John, Dot Dot Dot, and Beat Connection - not to mention their recent completion of 100 Shows in 100 Days with all proceeds being directed to cancer research.

You simply haven't lived until you've experienced this electrifying group led by Andy Kiel and Jim Wittmann (best friends since the age of four). Veoba describes their shows as a "momentous electronic performance" with a blend "starry-eyed synths and celestial harmonies." Windy City Rock has described them as "Muppets on crack" who were "born to be rockstars."

Their debut album, Mercury, features a variety of songs from their raunchy dance based song, Way Down to Logan Square which Loud Loop Press describes as having a "head-bobbing beat, wild synths and echo-y vocals reminiscent of Tears For Fears [which] will no doubt keep the party going." Or as the Chicagoist more simply puts it "throbbing, retro-futuristic dance beats."
