Teddy Thompson
Add To My Artists

Teddy Thompson (born 19 February, 1976, in London, England) is a British folk and rock musician. He is the son of Linda Thompson and Richard Thompson (who famously performed and recorded as Richard & Linda Thompson), and the brother of singer Kami Thompson. His fifth studio album, Bella, was released in 2011.

Thompson's style is difficult to categorize, because his influences are varied. Growing up around folk music, he listened to a musical gamut that covered Hank Williams, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke and gospel. As he fell in with other musical progeny, most notably close friend Rufus Wainwright, his sound developed into his own combination of country/western, rock, and his father's folk-rock.

Thompson played regular shows at Jon Brion's venue, Largo, in Los Angeles, while getting his first album contract together. He signed with Geffen who had big plans for him - but Geffen was soon after swallowed up by Virgin, who did not. In 2000 Thompson released his debut album, Teddy Thompson, which received much critical acclaim but little commercial success. He took a few years to tour and write before finally recording his second album on his own. While reviews for his first album [Read more]

Thompson has found his own sound and voice, although his family remains heavily involved in his music.

Thompson's fourth album, A Piece Of What You Need was released in 2008. His fifth studio album, Bella, was released in 2011.

Michael Daves
Add To My Artists

Michael was born in 1977 in the southern empire of Atlanta, Georgia. Soon after, he began to make loud noises, so his loving parents put music instruments in front of him. It was a good plan. He grew up in that grand tradition of staying up late & singing real loud. Although he's since moved north, the humid south remains in heart and sinus cavities.
Currently Michael lives in New York, where he is supervised by his daughter and two vigorous cats. Brooklyn, New York is a very exciting place to live. In addition to playing music & teaching, Michael enjoys turning the knobs & playing with the buttons some on several pieces of recording equipment. This is why he put a studio into his house.
As well as performing solo, Michael has appeared in public with the likes of: Tony Trischka, Chris Thile, Rosanne Cash, Natalie MacMaster, and John Herald (of the Greenbrier Boys).
Amen.

Sometimes people write things about Michael:

"a virtuoso"

"a leading light of the New York bluegrass scene"

"a dazzling guitarist and fearless singer at the heart of a burgeoning New York City bluegrass scene"
-New York Times

"Guitarist-singer Michael Daves, 29, was a wilder revelation. A Georgia boy relocated to Brooklyn, N.Y., he knows both bluegrass and rock. Daves owns a nasal, yipping voice that seems to have escaped from some crazed hillbilly past. With his hair flopping and his thick eyeglasses slipping, he looks like a mad uncle just let out of the attic. His guitar work was so intense and jolting, and his voice such a yelping cry from the heart, he seemed a punk-grass force of nature. "

It received glowing praise from press and radio, described as "one of those hoped-for revelations that emerged from the never ending pile of new releases" by Vin Scelsa (WFUV) and "a sonic revelation and lyrical treat" by John Rhodes (Headliner Magazine, Radio City Music Hall).

Her most recent album, "Edible Restaurant" (2007), features members of Slavic Soul Party! and the song 'Veselka' (NPR Song of the Day) about the much-beloved Ukrainian diner on 9th/2nd. She is now developing a musical theater piece based on songs from that album.

She has opened for Martha Wainwright, Glenn Tilbrook (Squeeze), Joan As Policewoman and Madeleine Peyroux, has a "spacious voice and a welcome weakness for lushly orchestrated pop" (The New Yorker) and was recently cited as one of NYC's Top 20 Orchestral Pop artists (Deli Magazine).

In her native land, she is a multi-platinum-selling hit songwriter, having co-penned the 'classic rock' hit, "Blow Up the Pokies" (performed by The Whitlams), which was recently listed as one of the countries Top 20 Best Songs of All Time (The Australian). Her song, "Charlie # 3" (also co-written with Tim Freedman from and a track on the breakthrough album, "Eternal Nightcap") will be performed at the Sydney Opera House by The Whitlams and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in December 2009.

She has a spacious voice and a welcome weakness for lushly orchestrated seventies-era singer-songwriter pop."
- The New Yorker

"(A)n intriguing and ultra-talented musician on the rise, possing a "sweetly lyrical voice, an arrestingly quirky sensibility, and a chamber-pop band that fits no pigeonholes. Some hear Rufus Wainwright, other Aimee Mann. All I hear is Greta Gertler - and I like what I hear."
- Terry Teachout, Wall Street Journal

"A hot commodity on the NY scene."
- WNYC's 'Soundcheck'

"Gertler is, at heart, a pop songwriter, but the strains of a broader musical palette can be heard throughout "The Baby that Brought Bad Weather". There are a little New Orleans swing and slow-burning torch songs, a touch of Joni Mitchell (and Robyne Dunn) and a looser approach that suggests the openness of jazz." - Bernard Zuel, Sydney Morning Herald

Megan Reilly
Add To My Artists

The Memphis-born Megan Reilly started writing songs and playing them on the guitar at sixteen. Influenced equally by Loretta Lynn and Thin Lizzy. At twenty-three, she moved to New York City in 1999 where Steve Shelley of Sonic Youth became an early fan and supporter and helped introduce Megan into the New York music scene. Soon, Megan had attracted a band of tremendous players -- Steve Goulding (The Mekons) on drums, Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu) on bass, and Eric Morrison (Home) on piano.

The group recorded Megan's first full-length release, Arc of Tessa, which was recently hailed to "one day be remembered as the unheralded gem of alternative-country 2003...a haunting collection of aching ballads put across with soulful understatement by Reilly and band" (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.)

Megan's second album, Let Your Ghost Go, was release on Carrot Top Records February 28, 2006. Produced by Sue Garner, mixed by John McEntire (Tortoise), and featuring her all-star band, the songs were recorded at various New York City studios -- The Magic Shop, Mule Yard, Brooklyn Recording, and Studio G.

Chris Mills

Americana singer/songwriter Chris Mills was born an Army brat, spending his formative years living in both the U.S. and Germany; as a teen he settled in southern Illinois, where he was exposed to the groundbreaking insurgent country sound of local heroes Uncle Tupelo. While in high school, Mills also fronted a speed metal band, but in the years to follow his music took an increasingly rootsy turn; upon signing to Chicago indie Sugar Free, he issued his debut EP Nobody's Favorite in 1997, followed in early 1998 by the full-length Every Night Fight for Your Life. Kiss It Goodbye arrived in mid-2000.
