Behold... The Arctopus
Add To My Artists

Hailing from New York City, Behold... The Arctopus are a 3-piece band that pushes the absolute extremes of technical and rhythmic complexity. The band currently consists of Mike Lerner and Colin Marston, after the recent departure of the band's original drummer Charlie Zeleny. On November 25, 2009, Weasel Walter announced that he was moving to New York City to join the band on drums and will be writing "new, more extreme material from scratch."

Fusing free-jazz, ambient soundscapes, and experimental math metal, Behold... The Arctopus swerve from the logical to illogical with ease. The Warr Guitar, a 12-string instrument that is primarily played by tapping and covers the range of guitar and bass, is the predominant instrument. That in itself is a tremendous oddity, as you rarely ever see such an instrument used in extreme metal, much less in the leading role. There are no vocals, but the density and texturing of their material eliminates any need for words.

Behold... The Arctopus are currently signed to Metal Blade Records via Black Market Activities for their first album, entitled Skullgrid that was released on October 16th, 2007.

Seabrook Power Plant
Add To My Artists

From the Minutemen's jazz-centric econo-punk to the bristling twang-rock of the Meat Puppets, Seabrook Power Plant joins a wide array of musical references without ever slipping into the grips of replication. In part due to their unique instrumentation, the band's unyielding vision and superb ability as a musical unit sets them apart from their contemporaries. Alongside Sun City Girls, Frank Zappa, and Henry Flynt, Seabrook Power Plant is crafting a sonic universe of its own through daringly unusual and adventurous music. The band is comprised of Brandon Seabrook on guitar and banjo, Jared Seabrook on drums, and Tom Blancarte on bass guitar.

Normal Love
Add To My Artists

Formed in 2006, Normal Love is an experimental band currently based in both Brooklyn and Philadelphia. Aesthetically difficult to define, their music has been described as "ecstatic experimentalism" and as "segments of acidic beauty and transcendent force."

Taking cues from a number of influences, NL drew initial inspiration from the sounds of pioneering artists transcending the confines of no wave, contemporary composition, underground metal, noise, outsider pop, oddball punk, musique concrète, early industrial, as well as various modes of free improvisation. At times, Normal Love has even invoked the creative talents of a select few of their unsung contemporaries, challenging them to write compositions of immense depth for the band.

The band has shared the stage with Sightings, The Sun Ra Arkestra, Matmos, Daughters, Tim Berne's Bloodcount, Ruins, Maps & Atlases, Nautical Almanac, Zs, Fat Worm of Error, People, Ocrilim (Mick Barr), Chinese Stars, Aa (BIG A little a), Dysrhythmia, James Plotkin, Psyopus, Stinking Lizavetta, and countless others.

Their discography includes the s/t LP on High Two Recordings, the Peel 7? (also High Two Recordings), and a [Read more]
