Pianist Bruce Levingston is one of today's leading figures in contemporary music. Many of the world's most important composers have written works for him including Philip Glass, Bruce Saylor, Curtis Curtis-Smith and Pulitzer Prize-winners William Bolcom, David Del Tredici, George Perle and Charles Wuorinen.

Lisa Bielawa
Lisa Bielawa is a composer, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist based in New York City. Bielawa is a 2009 Rome Prize winner in Musical Composition, and she spent a year composing as a Fellow at the American Academy in Rome. She was born into a musical family in San Francisco, California, and is the daughter of composer and retired professor of music, Herbert Bielawa. She learned piano, violin, voice and composition at an early age. After graduating from Yale with a degree in Literature in 1990, she moved to New York City to resume her musical career. In 1992 she began touring with The Phillip Glass Ensemble.
Bielawa's works tend to draw on literary sources. One example of this is Kafka Songs, composed for violinist and vocalist, Carla Kihlstedt (composed 2004, released on Handful of World, Tzadik, 2007). More recently she composed Chance Encounters, comprised of songs and arias which are based on snippets of conversations overheard in transient public spaces, and performed by soprano Susan Narucki. Much of Bielawa's chamber music has been performed at such venues as Symphony Space and The Brooklyn Museum among others. Her work has been well received by reviewers from The New [Read more]

Brooklyn Rider
The multi-faceted string quartet Brooklyn Rider is becoming increasingly known for its creative programming and exciting collaborations which serve to illuminate music in new ways and invite audiences into a shared experience. Uniquely able to address a wide and inclusive range of music, they are as willing to explore the world of Haydn as they are in the music of our time and have performed in venues as varied as Joe's Pub in NYC, Todai-ji Temple in Nara Japan and the Petronas Towers in Malaysia. Born out of a desire to use the rich medium of the string quartet as a vehicle for borderless communication, all of the musicians have enjoyed diverse careers in music that have intersected with each other over many years.
