Panda Bear
Add To My Artists

Panda Bear is the moniker of Noah Lennox, a founding member of Animal Collective and member of Jane.

Lennox grew up in the Roland Park section of Baltimore, Maryland. As a child, he played sports, and studied piano and cello. He later sang tenor in his high school chamber choir. After graduation, he attended Boston University but dropped out in 2000 and moved to New York where he dedicated himself to his music.

His first solo release was the self titled Panda Bear in 1998, which was released under Soccer Star Records, a label founded by fellow Animal Collective member, Deakin.

After its creation, Lennox focused on Animal Collective, putting his solo project aside. He picked it back up in 2004 and released Young Prayer that year. In 2007 he followed up with the critically acclaimed Person Pitch.

In Animal Collective, Noah was primarily responsible for percussion, although he has recently transitioned to working with samples in addition to contributing vocals and playing a variety of other instruments. He adopted the name Panda Bear from an early tape of his material, on which he drew a panda.

Avey Tare (DJ set)
Add To My Artists

Avey Tare (born David Portner on April 24th, 1979) is a musician and founding member of Animal Collective.

Avey Tare met Animal Collective's Deakin (Josh Dibb), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), and Geologist (Brian Weitz) in high school. For years, the four of them swapped homemade recordings, shared musical ideas and performed in different group configurations. Avey Tare recorded the Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished album with Panda Bear, and initially released the recording on the band's own Animal label in 2000.

After high school, Avey Tare and Geologist moved to New York City to attend NYU and Columbia University, respectively. Panda Bear and Deakin had eventually moved to NYC, and the band started to become more collaborative in nature. They finally settled on the name "Animal Collective".

Avey Tare's other projects and releases include Terrestrial Tones with Eric Copeland of Black Dice, a split 12" with David Grubbs and a LP with his exwife (ex-Múm) Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir (aka Kría Brekkan) called Pullhair Rubeye.

Teengirl Fantasy
Add To My Artists

Teengirl Fantasy is Logan and Nick, two friends at Oberlin College in Ohio. It's tough to classify Teengirl Fantasy's music within one genre - both Harmonia and CeCe Peniston serve as equal reference points. Teengirl Fantasy's love of drone, 4/4, and warm gating synths force new classifications of electronic music.

Their debut album, 7AM, was released in September 2010 through True Panther Sounds/Merok labels.
