Tonight you can—and should—catch Zach Hill and Nick Reinhart at Death By Audio, along with Anamanaguchi, Soft Circle and Unstoppable Death Machines.
If you don't recognize Hill by name, you might know him as the drummer for noisy math-rockers Hella. Or as the drummer and producer for guitar-shredding Manhattanite Marnie Stern. Or as a sometimes collaborator with a bunch of other groups, including Nervous Cop, No Age, Mick Barr, Wavves, Oneida and Prefuse 73.
Mr. Hill is an indescribably amazing drummer, and he's got a new solo album, the follow-up to 2008's Astrological Straits, coming out in September. Here's a quote from Hill from his Myspace page:
High! im very close to completing my new album(previously dubbed "FACE TAT" as a working title and the follow up to 2008's astrological straits) it will be released via SARGENT HOUSE RECORDS in september of 2010. im insanely excited about it and can honestly say in my opinion its sounding "!!!!!!!!!!!!" and as of now is my favorite, most vibrant record/music i have ever made or released.(very cliche, yes. but its very true). anyway as it gets closer i'll release more info, tour dates, videos, announcements of guests appearances etc. THANX IF YR INTERESTED AND IF YOU ARENT AS WELL! peace/love zach
For this tour Hill is joined by Nick Reinhart, who he's played with as Bygones. They won't be playing as that group this time, though, instead opting for spontaneous improvisations. Sounds good to us.
Here's a review of Hill and Reinhart's show in St. Louis last week.
And below you can watch a video of the two playing last week in Chicago, as well as a couple clips of them jamming in San Francisco last year.
