We were quite excited to catch the first night of Yo La Tengo's eight-night Hanukkah run at Maxwell's in Hoboken back on December 20, which featured The Sea and Cake as the opening band and Superchunk/Portastatic/Merge Records mastermind Mac MacCaughan as a special guest throughout Yo La Tengo's set. The night's comedic duties were fulfilled by Jon Benjamin and Jon Glaser, who performed under the guise of Dave Franz and Dave Farina, sons of Chicago actors Dennis Franz and Dennis Farina.
Check out the night's set list (via Jesse Jarnow's Frank & Earthy), a video of Yo La Tengo covering Sun Ra's "Somebody's in Love" to cap off the night and some photos from the show below.
For a rundown of all eight shows and the many different special guests, which included a Pussy Galore reunion, check out Jarnow's site. His book, Big Day Coming: Yo La Tengo and the Rise of Indie Rock, comes out June 6 via Penguin/Gotham.
