Preview + Review + Video: Yes Giantess and Red Wire Black Wire - They play Brooklyn Bowl tonight

Yes Giantess

Tonight, Yes Giantess and Red Wire Black Wire will take the stage at Brooklyn Bowl.

We had the opportunity to catch Yes Giantess a few weeks ago at Santos Party House and they were an exciting act to watch. Their recordings are distinctly electronic—synthesizers and manipulated drum sounds all the way —but in the live setting the band effectively transforms them with live drums, synthesizers, guitar and a computer. Jan Rosenfeld's MJ-esque vocals are punchy and exuberant; paired with his glowing and sexy presence...well, prepare to have your eyes glued. That's not to say that rest of the band lacks stage presence. Jan's two co-anchors, Chase Nicholl and Karl Hohn, are highly animated and fun to watch, while drummer Joey Sulkowski's metronome-like timing and bold playing pull the band together seamlessly. To boot, Brooklyn Bowl's superior sound system will allow Yes Giantess to sound just like they should.

Red Wire Black Wire combine Yeasayer's energy with The National's mellow-melodic vocals and Minus the Bear's instrumental affectation. While Jan of Yes Giantess belts out fun love songs, Doug Walters sings about pain and heartache. Walters' vocals are intelligent and well-conceived, letting him relate to the lovesick soul in all of us. Despite the deep nature of their vocals, Red Wire Black Wire's music, laden with pervasive synthesizer sounds, potent guitar lines and funky drum beats, still encourages you to move. It's a friendly reminder that sometimes the best way to deal with life's conflicts is to dance them away.
