Saturday night we felt quite lucky to catch tUnE-yArDs, Buke and Gass and Afuche at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

The sold-out show was the last night of tUnE-yArDs and Buke and Gass' tour together, excepting their appearance at Bowery Ballroom on Sunday for the Our Band Could Be Your Life 10th anniversary show, for which tUnE-yArDs performed Sonic Youth songs and Buke and Gass took on Fugazi.

tUnE-yArDs' Merrill Garbus was beaming throughout her headlining set, which was pretty much flawless. At one point she told the affectionate crowd, "I think I could do anything and you guys would cheer." Sticking her finger up her nose, she proved that point, as the audience erupted once again. Buke and Gass were equally exuberant and enjoyable, putting their custom instruments to good use throughout. Afuche provided an apt opening set, both because they share the other acts' pursuit of a wholly original sound and because they played with tUnE-yArDs at her first New York show at Goodbye Blue Monday back in the day.
