Tonight Sharon Van Etten, one of our favorite Brooklyn singer-songwriters, opens for Damon & Naomi at 92YTribeca. In addition to the live performances, the show will feature a screening of Damon & Naomi: 1001 Nights, a DVD anthology of the duo's music and travels from 2001 to 2009, as well as a Q&A.
And, as if that wasn't enough, Damon & Naomi (both former members of dream pop group Galaxy 500) will be joined on stage by Japanese guitarist Michio Kurihara (of Ghost and Boris). They've collaborated with Kurihara and Ghost before, but this will still be a rare chance to see them together on stage.
What we've seen of 1001 Nights has been pretty great as well, so that should provide a nice start to the evening. Below, check out "Song to the Siren," a clip from the DVD.
Now on to Van Etten: She recently recorded a new song, "Love More," as part of Weathervane Music and Philadelphia radio station WXPN's "Shaking Through" series. With this one she abandons her trusty guitar in favor of a push organ and some heavenly harmonies. It's a terrific track. Listen below.
