Wednesday night Crown Heights' Mr. Muthafuckin eXquire opens for Das Racist at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.
eXquire released Lost in Translation (stream it here) back in September and followed that up with a video for "The Last Huzzah," which you can watch below. It features Das Racist, Despot (who also plays Wednesday), Danny Brown and El-P.
Here's what Pitchfork's Larry Fitzmaurice said about eXquire's performance at Santos Party House during CMJ:
These days, a lot of hip-hop auteurs have been rapping about getting fucked up on some substance or another. NYC spitter Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire's latest mixtape, Lost in Translation, definitely suggests that he's in the same class-- if you're not convinced, check "Huzzah"'s reference to Georgi, a brand of vodka so noxious that you'd have to be desperate to use it for anything other than antifreeze. During his set at Santos Party House, however, the man was clear-headed, rapping his ass off during a frustratingly short sub-half-hour set. Ambient-leaning, free-associative "cloud rap" may be having a moment now, but eXquire delivers his boom-bap shit with both feet firmly planted on the ground.
We've also included a short interview that eXquire did for Converse Rubber Tracks.
