New York's Suckers and Portland's Menomena are a great match as tour-mates, and they proved that at Webster Hall on Friday night.
Both bands bring an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to live instrumentation, abandoning the simple guitar rock lineup for a more dynamic approach, with nearly every member contributing vocals as well as more than one instrument (auxiliary percussion, trumpet and trombone for Suckers; saxophone and Moog synth pedal for Menomena). And in both cases it makes for a fun and engaging show.
Suckers' set turned out to be extra special, as frontman Quinn Walker proposed to his girlfriend in between songs.
The New York Times' Jon Pareles was at the show, too. Read his review here.
