Harlem seems to be everyone's favorite garage/thrash band these days. Hailing from Austin, TX, the group has made Brooklyn their home away from home. They have infiltrated the scene and made it their own with exuberant and driving tunage and a magnetic stage show.
And now Harlem will hit BK once again on their way up to Canada for the Northeast leg of their grueling North America tour. While many refer to Harlem's music as thrash, it possesses a goofy character that makes for a fun, even bouncy alternative to the standard thrash outfit. Their performance style is appropriately energetic; their front-man and bassist jump around the stage as the drummer bounces in place.
Harlem will be performing tonight with Thomas Function and Girls at Dawn at Monster Island Basement, which has assumed the position of premier DIY venue after the unfortunate shuttering of the Market Hotel. Todd P's venues, which include Market Hotel and Monster Island, are always dirty, stinky and full of life—some of the best places to see music in the city if you ask us. Harlem will pack the place, so get there with time to spare.
