Tonight the cast of the hit Broadway musical Fela! will be celebrating the release of their Original Cast Recording with a free party at Brooklyn Bowl.
In case you don't know, Fela! recounts the life and times of Nigerian afrobeat star Fela Kuti. We saw it earlier this year and were blown away.
First hitting Broadway in 2009 after an off-Broadway stint in 2008, the musical has received 11 nomations for the Tony Awards, which take place on June 13. The Original Cast Recording is out today on Knitting Factory Records.
Fela! stars Kevin Mambo and Sahr Ngaujah will host the night, and the cast will give a special performance. There will also be a an "inauguration, libation and performance by Baba Ola Jagun, Yoruban priest." And, on top of that, there will be DJ sets from Questlove of The Roots and others.
