Last Thursday Matt Mondanile, guitarist of Real Estate, stopped by the Underwater Visitations show on Bushwick's Newtown Radio to play a few live songs under his solo moniker, Ducktails.
His final number was a cover of Pavement's "In The Mouth A Desert," originally from 1992's Slanted & Enchanted. It's a floating, reverb-soaked interpretation, coming off like a distant but fond dream of a time that's long past—i.e. the early '90s. Listen to it below.

In case you don't know, Newtown Radio is an awesome Internet radio station run out of Danbro Studios in Bushwick. Underwater Visitations, which is a collaboration between the blog Visitation Rites and label Underwater Peoples, is one of Newtown's many terrific shows. They also have shows by Chocolate Bobka, Arthur Magazine and more. Last night they even broadcasted live sets by Total Slacker, Naked Hearts, We Are Country Mice and Twin Shadow from their showcase at the Knitting Factory.
Today Brooklyn's Beach Fossils will be live in-studio guests from 3-6pm on Newtown, so you should definitely tune in.
It doesn't seem like Mondanile will be bringing Ducktails to any stages in NYC in the near future (he'll be playing some shows in Spain and Portugal at the beginning of June), but Real Estate will be playing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg with Woods, The Fresh & Onlys, Sic Alps and Moon Duo on June 25 as part of the Northside Festival and at Le Poisson Rouge on July 9 with Kurt Vile.
