It's going to be a busy weekend for Virginia's Jack Tatum, aka Wild Nothing.
To begin his three night stay in Brooklyn, Wild Nothing will play tonight at the Market Hotel with Blissed Out, Miho Hatori, and Fluffy Lumbers. That lineup will prove to be diverse and thorough, acknowledging many musical peaks. Brooklyn's Blissed Out is a distorted interpretation of dance-electro that comes as close to noise as it does to trance. Cibo Matto's Miho Hatori combines sharp vocals with hip-hop beats and punctuated riffs, and Fluffy Lumbers will fill out the bill with fuzzy, wide open pop songs.
But that's only the beginning for Wild Nothing. Friday he plays Music Hall of Williamsburg with Woods, Real Estate, and Happy Birthday, and then he'll finish up his weekend on Saturday at Shea Stadium with PC Worship and The House Floor. Music Hall of Williamsburg has the best sound of the three venues, while Shea Stadium and Market Hotel are both all-ages and usually sport a more interesting scene than their formal counterparts.
Wild Nothing specializes in guitar-driven, melody-heavy pop songs that are ethereal but also substantial. He exhibits a keen knack for instinctual songwriting in tunes "Summer Holiday" and "Live in Dreams," and a solid grasp on the more conspicuous aspects of contemporary indie pop sensibilities in songs "Pessimist" and "Drifter." Tatum's dynamically holistic approach makes his songs enthralling and audibly organic.
