Tonight Denmark's Efterklang plays at Le Poisson Rouge with Daniel Bjarnason and Sam Amidon.
The group's name might sound a little goofy, but it's actually very appropriate, translating as "remembrance" or "reverberation." Their latest album, Magic Chairs, is there third full-length, and it came out February 22 on 4AD. The band's own label, Rumraket (Danish: "space rocket") released Grizzly Bear's debut album, Horn of Plenty, in Europe back in 2005, and they do indeed share a lot of sonic space with that harmonious Brooklyn quartet.
Check out the video for "Modern Drift," the first single from Magic Chairs, below. Here's a quote giving some background for the video:
"The new music video is based on Dyrehaven, den Romantiske Skov, a film from 1970 by the acclaimed artists Per Kirkeby and Jørgen Leth (Kristians father). The film geek will know that the album title Magic Chairs draws on inspiration from another film by Jørgen Leth."
