Tonight the mysterious and legendary Residents will perform at Webster Hall. Formed way back in 1969, the band has released over 60 albums, as well as numerous music videos, short films, DVDs and more. Over all of that time and musical output they've managed to conceal their true identities pretty well, appearing often in costumes made up of eyeball helmets, tuxedos and top hats (see left).
There's much to be seen, read and (of course) heard when it comes to The Residents. You can delve into the band's dense history and more by going to Allmusic, Wikipedia, the official site or this fan site.
The Residents' current tour, "Talking Light," features (according to Wikipedia) "singer 'Randy' wearing an old man mask, and the other two wearing dread lock wigs and some kind of optical gear over their faces. The songs were stories about various characters' obsessions with invisible siblings, fictional serial killers, people in mirrors, among others."
This'll likely be really weird and really worth seeing, so make plans to head to Webster Hall tonight.
Below we've included a few videos of The Residents, including footage from the "Talking Light" opening night in Santa Cruz, a 1986 interview with the band, and a cover of Elvis' "Teddy Bear."
The band is also recording each show on this tour and selling digital copies on their website. Check out Sunday night's gig in DC and listen to a couple audio clips here.
